SOM is also a leading-edge provider of executive education, consulting services, and applied research to senior management in business, government, and the nonprofit sector.
The School of Management has an entrepreneurial, collaborative learning environment for women who want to accomplish something meaningful for their organizations, communities, and themselves. SOM is for women of purpose who intend to use their leadership skills to make a lasting difference in the world.
The School of Management offers the following:
MBA Program
The MBA Program helps students master the essentials of strategy, finance, marketing, economics, entrepreneurship, operations, quantitative analysis and organizational behavior. Just as important, our students learn more effective ways to lead, manage, and influence people. Simmons graduates develop a range of competencies employers covet: mental agility, strategic thinking and analytic ability plus superior leadership, communication and team-building skills.
The Certificate in Entrepreneurship
The nationally recognized Simmons Certificate in Entrepreneurship helps women master the business fundamentals of entrepreneurship and reap the personal and professional rewards of entrepreneurial careers. The Certificate is designed specifically for women and encompasses a sequenced set of four courses that combine theoretical and experiential learning including a hands-on practicum. Throughout the program, Simmons provides you with valuable opportunities to make connections, build networks and develop mentoring relationships with a broad community of faculty, alumnae, researchers, advisors and business leaders. Whether you plan to launch or grow your own venture, you’ll acquire critical skills for creating sustainable ventures that have an impact.
The MBA Certificate in Health Care Management
In collaboration with the Simmons School of Health Sciences (SHS), the School of Management (SOM) offers this specialized program to prepare MBA students and MBA degree holders to address the unique and demanding requirements of health care management. By augmenting the rigorous business skills of an MBA with the knowledge gained from the Simmons nationally accredited Health Care Management program, the CHCM graduate will be well equipped to tackle the challenges facing health care managers today. Like the Simmons MBA, the CHCM program is flexible, offering full- and part-time options to meet the need of the busy student or business professional. Through a mix of hands on coursework, individual and group projects, and practicum experience, students are immersed in real-world issues related to health care decision-making and economics. They are also exposed to best practice business modes, providing them with the tools needed to be leaders in the field. To complete the MBA program with the CHCM Certificate, a total of 54 credits is required. A stand-alone CHCM is available to SOM MBA alumnae and to others who have received their MBA from AACSB-accredited institutions.Executive Education
Our Executive Education programs give women the knowledge, skills, and abilities to become organizational leaders, learning from faculty experts in organizational behavior and in gender and organizational effectiveness. Our clients often credit their Simmons experience with job and career advancement.
Undergraduate Management
The Undergraduate Management program offers four majors: management, marketing, retail management and finance, all sharing a common set of prerequisites and required core courses. Students are also encouraged to double major or minor with other Simmons programs such as economics, communications, arts administration or computer science.
Center for Gender in Organizations
The Center for Gender in Organizations (CGO), SOM's research arm, is committed to improving organizational effectiveness by strengthening gender equity in the workplace. Founded with the help of a Ford Foundation grant, the CGO – through its vibrant research initiative, speaker's bureau, and customized consulting – is an international resource on diversity and organizational change for scholars, executives and practitioners in all fields.
Leadership Conference
The annual Leadership Conference is the world's premier leadership event for women, consistently attracting world-class leaders from business, government, education, media and the arts. The Conference is a generous source of MBA scholarships.
"As I interact in the Boston community personally and professionally, I continue to come across great women business leaders who are graduates of the SOM. It confirms for me the importance of the school's mission to educate women for leadership and power - and the excellent job it's doing to attain that goal."
Stacy Blake-Beard, associate professor and CGO research faculty member
