Simmons School of Management adopts principles for responsible management education
BOSTON (April 29, 2008) – The Simmons School of Management in Boston has responded to the global call for business schools and academic associations to advance corporate social responsibility worldwide, by agreeing to adhere to the United Nations’ Principles for Responsible Management Education, which provide a framework for academic institutions to incorporate universal values into curricula and research.
The Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) were unveiled by a group of scholars and leading academic organizations at the United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit in July 2007. The principles are designed to guide a school’s effort to continuously improve curricula and research on issues of corporate citizenship and sustainability.
In its first year of development, the initiative seeks to define a set of good practices on implementation and reporting of the PRME. Those practices will lay the groundwork for a Global Forum of Responsible Management Education to be convened by the end of 2008, where the Simmons School of Management and other business schools and academic institutions that have adopted the principles will play a key role.
The PRME principles were developed by an international task force of 60 deans, university presidents, and representatives of leading business schools. It was co-convened by the UN Global Compact, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the European Foundation for Management Development, the Aspen Institute’s Business and Society Program, the European Academy for Business in Society, the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative and Net Impact.
The Simmons School of Management (www.simmons.edu/som), the nation’s only business school designed for women’s leadership success, is a leading authority on women, leadership and management. Simmons College (www.simmons.edu) is a nationally recognized private university located in the heart of Boston.
